It’s Time to Fight! We were Made to Fight
(Surrender Your All; read Luke 7:36-50)

I. Know and understand the time that we are living in: Matt 11:12 From the time of John the
Baptist the Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. Ephesians
5:14-17 Wake up and become “spiritually woke” unto the Lord. Walk in wisdom making
good use of the time that we are in. Assist in others coming into the Kingdom by proclaiming
the Gospel. Don’t become like the Pharisees (Matt 23:13), who prohibited others from
receiving salvation by keeping them away from the Gospel invitation.

II. Fight by surrendering your whole heart unto the Lord: Luke 7:36-50 The “sinner woman
from the city” shows us how to fight in the Kingdom of God.

a. An elegant invitation- A pharisee invites Jesus to dinner in his house. This was a
religious and proper setting. His intentions are questionable (vs.36).

b. A “sinner woman from the city” hears that Jesus is in the house. This woman was
known by those who sat at dinner as a sinner. She comes anyway. This is a violent move
on behalf of the woman (Matt 11:12). The pharisees are known for approving of stoning
sinful women (Jn7:53-8:11). She is trusting in the Lord Jesus for redemption (Prov 3:5-7).

c. Your heart is where your treasure is (Matt 6:21)- She is holding something of value
willing to give it all to Jesus. This jar of fragrant oil represents her heart. Our heart is
what Jesus wants (Matt 22:37).

d. The beauty of humility (James 4:10)- The sinner woman shed many tears, representing
her confession of guilt and shame carried by her sin. Her kneeling to wash the feet of
the Savior was outward evidence of repentance. The drying of His feet with her hair was
a sign of total submission unto the Lord. Her hair represented her earthly glory and
covering (1Cor 11:15), which she was relinquishing for His greater glory and covering of
salvation.

e. Missing the time (vs.39)- The Pharisee indicated that he did not really receive Jesus in
good faith. He states that, “if this man was”. He missed it! The “sinner woman” got it.
She brought to light what Jesus spoke over the pharisees in Matt 21:31.

III. Confession and Repentance- Through “confession and repentance” is how believers enter
into the Kingdom of God.

This is our weapon. Without it we are like the Pharisee, religious
on the outside and dead on the inside. Confession and repentance are the lifestyle of the
believer. Remember what Jesus said to the woman, “Your sins are forgiven.” And if that
wasn’t enough, He added, “Your faith has saved you.” The Lord knows every heart, but He
saves the heart that has repented (34:18; 51:17). If we confess our sins, He is faithful and
just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1Jn 1:9).
