John 5:24-27
I. Vs. 24 Power if His (Jesus) Word and what it yields
a. (Truly, Truly) indicates the seriousness and spiritual depth of
what Jesus is about to say. Jn 6:63- Jesus Words are spirit and
life; Hebrews 4:12- powerful and discerning Ps 119:105- a light
for direction
b. The man or women who hears these words, not just with the
outer ear, but with the spiritual ear accepting it as the truth, and
then spends their faith to believe that He (Jesus) is from the
Father. Matt 13:12- to hear is a blessing granted by God.
c. Here is the seriousness of the matter. Everlasting life has its
beginning for men and women with the Word of God. This is the
regeneration of the spirit of men and women, which suffered
death because of inherited sin. John 11:25-26 Jesus is the
resurrection and the life. Eph 2:8-9 Grace through faith we are
saved.
II. Vs. 25 (Truly, Truly) upon the spreading of the Gospel
a. Those who are spiritually dead. Rom 2:23 All have sinned and
fallen short of the glory. Eph 2:1-5 We were the spiritually dead,
but God.
III. Vs. 26-27 Life is in the Father and the Son
a. This is eternal life, not just human life. Jesus is qualified to
judge man because He is fully man and fully God. Son of Man
is a Messianic term. The Father has given Him authority.
Remember John 1:1-3 The Word was with God and the Word
was God. Matt 28:18 All power is given to the Son in heaven
and on earth.
b. This judgment is eternal judgment. Matt 25:31-46 The coming
of the Son of Man
