Topic: It’s Not Over, It’s Just Beginning!
S. Topic: It’s All About the Mission
Scripture: Matthew 28: 1-20 (18-20)
S. Scripture: Mark 16:1-19 (14-20); John 2:19; 10:17,18; 11:25,26

I. Jesus Rose from the Grave (Matt 28:1-16)
a. First day of week Mary and Mary come to the empty tomb Matt 28:1-4
b. Confronted by the Angel and told to go and give the Good News to the disciples, with
the instruction to meet Him (Jesus) in Galilee. Note: It is important to focus on the
phrase, “He is Risen as he said.” This can be supported by John 2:19; 10:17,18, and
11:25,26. Matt 28:1-8
c. Confronted by the Risen Savior (Jesus) with same instruction (tell disciples to meet him
in Galilee. Note: This is the first recorded eyewitness evidence of Jesus’ resurrection.
Matt 28:9,10
d. The guards, with the Jewish religious leaders concocted a plan to lie and say, “While
they (the guards) slept the disciples stole the body of Jesus.” This lie did not outlast the
truth. We are proof of that, as we worship Jesus to this very day. Note: God’s truth will
always prevail Psalm 100:5 Matt 28:11-15
e. The disciples meet Jesus in Galilee. They worship Him. Note: This is the third eyewitness
evidence of Jesus’ resurrection. Worship Jesus! Matt 28:16

II. Jesus Commissions disciples and all believers
a. Jesus possessed all authority in Heaven and on earth. The Father has given it to Him.
Note: His authority transcends all other authority. Phil 2:5-11 We should pledge our
allegiance to the Savior over any governmental power and any social organization. What
do you give you allegiance to that places Jesus in second place? Lay it down and let
Jesus walk on it. Hosanna! Matt 28:18
b. Because all authority has been given to Jesus, He can and does share His authority with
His disciples. This is done as He commissions us to go and make disciples. Note: this is
not a suggestion. It is a command. Go means Go. Matt 28:19

III. Summary
a. Let us clarify the command, “Go and make disciples.”
1. Who is Jesus talking to? He is talking to you and me (born again believers) Matt 28:19; Mark
16:15
2. What is He commanding us to do? He is commanding us to witness and teach and preach
the Gospel to all men and women, making disciples Mark 16:15; Matt 28:19,20
3. How are we to do this? Through the power of the Holy Spirit. Acts 1:8
4. When are we to do this? We are to begin when we are born again. Once we’re born again,
we are to Go and tell what we know. Right now, what are you waiting on? Acts 1:8
5. Where are we to go and perform this commandment? We are to go everywhere.
